WHAT I DO

The type of psychotherapy I provide is called Insight-orientated therapy. You can expect me to sit with you and listen carefully to your experiences. I will explore with you connections between your present thoughts, feelings, actions and past events in your life. This type of therapy aims to help you understand more about yourself and your relationships so you can make more effective choices.

The thinking behind this approach is that the blue print for our actions, behaviours, feelings and self-concept was put in place at a very young age. As a result, I often ask about your early care-givers, school experience, social and economic environment and health issues. We may look for patterns that worked well in their early context, but do not work anymore or are too big to handle on your own. A change may be needed. The insight you gain in a committed, active therapeutic relationship can be a powerful tool to encourage this change.

Another therapeutic tool that I use in my work is Psychodramatic Bodywork™ This method combines two forms of psychotherapy: psychodrama and bodywork. In psychodrama, blocked spontaneity from earlier traumas is freed and reintegrated through dramatic action methods. The client has an opportunity to express past, present; future struggles with the intention to move through and heal from them. Bodywork involves ‘safe’ touch to help individuals connect with the messages that are held in the body as pain, numbness and/or illness. The pain is freed through the release of suppressed feelings.
